Registration, Travel, and Lodging Information

A final version of the conference program is available here. Please note, in an effort to save a few trees, we will not be providing printed programs. Instead, the program is available as a PDF online and in the free Guidebook app. You should have received an invitation from Guidebook and must use that email address to log into the IFRWH2018 program through Guidebook on your device with the password provided. Please contact Jennifer Spear at jennifer_spear@sfu.ca if you need the invitation email again.

Help Support Scholars!

The cost of attending the 12th IFRWH conference may make it difficult for some researchers whose proposals have been accepted to attend. This is particularly true for some scholars from universities in the Global South that may not have sufficient resources to cover their travel to North America. We are inviting scholars who would not be able to attend without a subvention to apply for assistance from the IFRWH. The IFRWH does not have its own travel funds, and must rely on donations to support travel by scholars in need of assistance. Please consider donating to our travel and registration subvention fund.

(1) If you would like to pay by credit card or bank debit, send an email to Dr. Sandra Dawson at execdir@theccwh.org to request a donation invoice.

(2) Mail a check (made out to Coordinating Council for Women in History with IFRWH in the memo line) to: Sandra Dawson, 6042 Blue Point Ct, Clarksville MD 21029. We can only accept US checks.

Registration

Registration is no longer available via our Eventbrite page. Please contact Sandra Dawson at execdir@theccwh.org to arrange payment. All registration prices are in US dollars.

Full-time employed $250

Unemployed or graduate student $75

The conference banquet tickets may be purchased for $40. Coffee and tea will be available at the conference and the cost of registration includes two receptions, Thursday and Friday evenings. Drinks will be served with heavy hors d’oeuvres.

All amounts noted below (Visa & Accommodations) are in Canadian dollars (US$0.80 or EURO €0.68 on September 8). Check the current exchange rates here.

Visa Requirements

Most travelers, except for those with valid Canadian passports or visas (including permanent residency cards) and U.S. citizens, will need either a visa or, if exempt from the visa requirement, an Electronic Travel Authorization, if arriving by air (visa-exempt travelers arriving by car, train, bus, or boat do not need an ETA). Visas generally cost $100; an ETA costs $7. Both are usually issued within three weeks but processing may take as long as three months. To find out if you need a visa or ETA, please click here; for average processing times (determined by where you are applying from), click here. We encourage everyone to apply for any necessary documents as early as possible to avoid any last-minute difficulties.

Please contact Jennifer Spear at jms25@sfu.ca if you need a formal letter of acceptance or a letter for your Visa application.

When making your plans, please be advised that the Vancouver International Airport recommends that travelers returning to the United States arrive three hours in advance of their flight.

Hotels

All conference events will take place at Simon Fraser University’s downtown Harbour Centre campus, 555 West Hastings Street, BC V6B 5K3, Canada.

Vancouver, located on the unceded territories of the Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh, and Musqueam Nations, is beautiful in August. Temperatures range from 13C to 22C (56F to 71F), and we expect under an inch and a half of rain. Unfortunately, this means it is a popular time for tourists, conventioneers, and cruise ship passengers to visit. As a result, hotel rooms can be scarce and expensive.

Group rates for conference attendees are available at the following hotels. If you wish to make reservations at a non-conference hotel, we recommend you do so as early as possible.
